Grants of up to $10,000 to Texas nonprofit organizations in eligible counties to meet community health needs. This program makes small grants for projects that will make significant strides in meeting local health needs. Priority will be placed on the following initiatives: increase capacity to better provide health services, support grassroots health activities, and church health ministry development. Eligible organizations must operate in at least one of the following counties of the Foundation's service area: Bandera, Atascosa, Comal, Bexar, Kendall, Guadalupe, Wilson, and Medina.

The Foundation welcomes a wide variety of organizations to apply for funding, but each request must be connected to health in a way that is clinical, educational, spiritual, or scientific.

Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio Grants are limited to:

  • healthcare clinics
  • indigent care programs
  • assisted living facilities
  • mobile health and primary care facilities
  • substance abuse programs
  • behavioral health facilities
  • health education scholarships
  • and other not-for-profit healthcare providers

The Foundation will make grants to support general operating expenses, including salaries. However, the organization must be able to sustain these costs beyond the Foundation grant period.

The application amount must fall in the range of $3,000-$10,000.

The Foundation cannot fund ongoing requests.

The Board prefers to make single-year grant awards. At the Board’s discretion, multi-year requests (2 or 3 years) may be considered but are rare.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Only organizations can apply for funding; individuals cannot apply.

Specific Grant Requirements:
- The organization’s operating budget must be less than $250,000. (Churches are exempt from this requirement.)
- The application amount must not exceed 25 percent of the organization’s operating budget.

General Requirements for any Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio Grant:

- Have an operating budget, approved annually by the organization’s board

Organizations not based in one of the eight counties may still apply for support, provided that funds awarded for the project or program assist or serve residents in the eight county geographic area.

Although the Foundation has not funded building projects in the past, it will consider requests for such projects.

The Foundation does not fund:
- Automobiles and passenger vans;
- Endowments;
- Multiple requests from an organization (or affiliate organization, as listed on the Form 990);
- Annual fund drives, galas, telethons or special events; or

The Foundation is unable to fund programs of religious, fraternal, athletic, or veteran groups.
