Grant Description
Grants to Ontario registered charities and qualified donees for projects that benefit eligible communities. Applicants should contact the funding source prior to submitting an application. Focus areas may include community needs, financial assistance during the winter holiday season, families, children, and seniors. Priority will be given to collaborative projects involving volunteer participation. Projects must serve the following areas located in Simcoe County: Ramara Township, Chippewas of Rama First Nation, City of Orillia, Severn Township, or a portion of Oro-Medonte Township (just north of Oro Station and to the east of and including Coldwater).

The Foundation is accepting grant applications for the following endowment funds:

  • The Smart and Caring Communities Fund (formerly the Community Unrestricted Fund), which enables the Foundation to respond to areas of need within the community.
  • The Casino Rama Festive Fund, established by the CREW at Casino Rama to provide financial support to a charitable organization that will use the money to assist families in need during the winter festive season.
  • The Patti Cox Memorial Children’s Fund, which provides grants to charitable organizations for the purpose of assisting children and children’s activities in the Orillia area that focus mainly on personal development of children where the benefits arising will last a lifetime.
  • The Patti Cox Memorial Seniors’ Fund, which provides grants to charitable organizations for the purpose of assisting seniors and seniors’ activities in the Orillia area that focus on improving levels of independence and self-sufficiency of seniors.

Funds must be used to service individuals, groups, events and projects, or for the purchase of goods and services. Projects must be self-sustainable beyond the Foundation’s grant. 

Priority is given to projects that:

  • Meet a demonstrated need within the community
  • Demonstrate a new approach or complement existing services
  • Show a collaborative approach with community partners
  • Involve significant volunteer participation
  • Can access the necessary qualified human resources for implementation
  • Include a viable plan for continued maintenance or funding
  • Have a sound budget
  • Leverage or raise additional funds

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Grant-making Criteria: Funds may only be given to programs and organizations that are registered charities or other qualified donees as defined by CRA; that service the geographic area of the Foundation (Ramara Township, Chippewas of Rama First Nation, City of Orillia, Severn Township, and a portion of Oro-Medonte from Oro Station north, and west to Coldwater); and that are self-sustainable beyond the Foundation’s grant.

Ineligible
Funding will not be provided for political parties or used for lobbying or other political activities and purposes.

Retroactive approvals will not be considered. Please contact the CFOA BEFORE submitting an application.

Pre-Application Information
The Foundation is accepting grant applications until Friday October 6th at 3:00 pm.

Applicants are encouraged to contact the office to discuss applications well before the deadline date.

A letter confirming acceptance or rejection of the application will be issued approximately one month following the deadline.

To apply: Applicants should discuss their project with the CFOA, complete the on-line application form detailing the project and its budget, and include all requisite support material.

Applications are generally accepted in the spring and fall each year. Please contact the CFOA for all upcoming deadlines.
