Grants of up to $5,000 to Ohio nonprofit grassroots organizations in eligible locations for programs that respond to community needs, promote racial equity, and provide Coronavirus (COVID-19) relief. The purpose of funding is to address the needs and priorities identified by the local community. Eligible grassroots groups must be from Warren and Youngstown.

Neighborhood SUCCESS, a program of The Raymond John Wean Foundation, supports grassroots groups in Warren and Youngstown with the most promising efforts to:

  • Center race equity and inclusion in the design, implementation and impact of the work
  • Expand meaningful participation and leadership of residents closest to the challenge
  • Build community by encouraging communication, collaboration and connection among residents and organizations
  • Leverage financial, human and material resources that exist in the community
  • Address Resident Identified Priorities
    • Race equity and inclusion
    • Blight remediation and housing conditions
    • Job training and entrepreneur development
    • Food security and healthy food access
    • Youth employment, training and recreation
    • Neighborhood safety
    • Community cohesion and unity
    • Digital inclusion
    • Effective and accountable government and civic leadership

For 2021 the Neighborhood SUCCESS Grants Program has been adapted to be responsive to the pandemic, and the additional fall 2021 round will include a streamlined application process, on-demand grantseeker orientation, and an expedited review process. Within the Resident Identified Priorities above, requests will be considered for:

  • COVID Response – efforts related to needs caused or made worse by the pandemic.
  • Program/Operations – resources to bolster organization operations or programs.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Raymond John Wean Foundation invites grassroots groups from Warren and Youngstown to apply for Neighborhood SUCCESS grants.

The Foundation Does Not Fund:
- Organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, age, national origin or disability
- Individuals, businesses/for profit entities
- Individual scholarships or grants, even if through an otherwise qualified organization
- Religious organizations for religious or evangelical purposes
- Government agencies or departments
- Endowment funds or capital campaigns
- Fundraising event sponsorship
- Political campaigns or promotion of issues
- Debt reduction
- Foreign operations or expenditures
- National fundraising campaigns or mass mailing campaigns
- Veterans' organizations or fraternal societies

Pre-proposal Conference:

Three virtual Technical Assistance sessions have been scheduled for residents to receive more specific feedback for their grant proposals. Each session will be held via Zoom. Grantseekers must RSVP to participate in a virtual Technical Assistance session and should have already viewed the Step-by-Step On-Demand Orientation Video and begun drafting their application. Both Foundation staff and Resident Council members will participate in each session to answer specific questions. The Virtual Technical Assistance sessions are scheduled as follows:

Saturday, September 11, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (Must RSVP by Tuesday, September 7)
Tuesday, September 14, 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (Must RSVP by Friday, September 10)
Thursday, September 16, 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (Must RSVP by Friday, September 10)
To provide adequate assistance during each virtual session, the number of RSVPs is capped at four (4) applicants per session on a first come, first serve basis.


Pre-Application Information:

Beginning August 31, applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on September 21, and reviewed by the Resident Council. Organizations may only receive one Neighborhood SUCCESS Grant per year. If an application was unsuccessful during the spring 2021 round, it can be amended and submitted for consideration at this time.

Applications must be submitted through the Foundation’s application portal, Submittable.
