Grant Description
Grants to British Columbia registered charities in eligible locations for projects that contribute to the well-being of local residents. Funding is intended for programs and activities in a wide range of focus areas, including but not limited to arts, education, health, environment, youth, seniors, and social justice. Projects must benefit residents of the Shuswap area of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District.

Projects should be in one of the following grant categories:

  • Animal Welfare
  • Arts and Culture
  • Community
  • Education
  • Environment
  • Health and Wellness
  • Heritage 
  • Seniors
  • Social Equality
  • Youth

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Your organization must be a CRA-registered charity, a non-profit society, or a community service organization or association. If you are a new non-profit society, or a community service organization or association, be in partnership with a charity, municipality, or school, to qualify.

Organization must provide programs and services within the Shuswap.

If a non-profit/organization/association is seeking funding within the first year of business, it is required to partner with an established registered charity or non-profit with which there is a formalized partnership, a history of collaboration, and a similar mission and vision. The grant application must be submitted by the Registered Charity or established non-profit in collaboration with the new non-profit/organization/association.

Ineligible
The Foundation will not support projects of a partisan, religious, or political nature.

The Foundation does not normally fund ongoing operations. Grants are intended to be one-time and should support projects that can be completed and evaluated within a reasonable period. For capital projects, the Foundation reserves the right to approve the project, but not advance funds until invoices are received and confirmation of other funding sources has been received.

The Foundation will not fund projects already underway.

Grant funds may not be used to retire debt.

Pre-Application Information
Your Online Application must be submitted no later than June 15 (First Cycle) or January 31 (Second Cycle).

Funds typically are available for distribution within 4-6 weeks of notification of approval.

SCF First Granting Cycle:
Grant Application Due: June 15
Cheques Disbursed By: August 31

SCF Second Granting Cycle:
Grant Application Due: January 31
Cheques Disbursed By: March 31

It is preferred, but not required that grants are matched by funding from other sources.

Estimated Size of Grant
The Foundation does not set a minimum or maximum amount for grant awards however, they are limited by the funds available to them (based on the rate of return on investments) and the number of successful applications received in any given grant cycle.

Term of Contract
- June 15 deadline: For projects starting after September 1
- January 31 deadline: For projects starting after April 1

Shuswap Community cannot entertain requests for ongoing or multi-year funding at this point in time.
