Grants to California arts organizations to provide programming for local residents in eligible locations. Funding is intended to support projects and programs that directly benefit adults, children, and schools. Previous recipients include music festivals, symphonies, conservatories, and playhouses. Proposals must benefit residents of Newport Beach and schools only within the City’s geographic boundaries.

Each year, the City of Newport Beach distributes funds to arts organizations, enabling them to expand arts programs offered to the local community. Arts organizations must propose projects/programs for funding that directly benefit children and adults living in Newport Beach, and schools only within the City’s geographic boundaries. Collaborative events, such as public performances or programs implemented in conjunction with the City of Newport Beach are also eligible for grants.

Term of Contract:

The Arts Commission funds only arts projects/programs which will be presented before January 16, 2023.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Only arts organizations are eligible; grants are not awarded to individual artists.

Arts organizations that received cultural grants during 2019-2020 and 2020-21 will not be considered unless they have completed and returned their Cultural Arts Grant Completion Report, even if they have not completed some of the components of the project/program by the grant application due date.

2022-23 Cultural Arts Grant Timeline:
- 2/11/2022: Grant applications are due. To be considered for a Cultural Arts Grant, the application must be completed according to the instructions and received at the Library’s Administrative Office by 4:00 p.m. This is not a postmark date.
- 02/01/2021: Subcommittee's recommendation is submitted to staff for inclusion in monthly agenda packet.
- 03/10/2022: City Arts Commission approves grantees for recommendation to City Council.
- 03/22/2022: Recommendations made to City Council.
- 05/09/2022: Grant awards disseminated.
- 01/16/2023: 2022-23 Cultural Arts Grant Completion Report due.
- 01/16/2023: 2022-2 Grant funds must have been spent or encumbered.
