Grants ranging from $1,500 to $5,000 to USA secondary and higher education mathematics teachers to implement a student-driven mathematics teaching style in a summer, winter, or regular-term course. Secondary education teachers are advised to submit a letter of intent prior to applying. Applicants will have access to learning facilitation mentorship as well as teaching-materials.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Summer salary is $2,500; Winter salary is $1,500; Release time funds up to $5,000.

Term of Contract:

Projects are to be conducted in Winter/Spring 2015, Summer 2015, and/or Fall 2015. Projects may extend into Spring 2016.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Small Grants Program primarily focuses on supporting college math faculty, including faculty who teach courses for future elementary or secondary teachers. Faculty can only apply for one small grant per cohort.

Secondary teachers have been funded in the past, and are encouraged to submit a letter of intent prior to submitting an application to verify feasibility and appropriateness of the program. Applications from elementary school teachers are not being accepted at this time.

Restrictions:
-A person may be awarded one grant from each category during his or her lifetime.
-Larger projects, such as the development of a significant amount of curriculum (beyond one or two courses), and projects that have a significant math education research focus are beyond the scope of this program.

Application Instructions:

-Identify your target IBL course and course materials (See Resources: http://www.inquirybasedlearning.org/?page=Resources).

-Find a mentor yourself or through the AIBL Mentor Program.

-Complete the online Category 1 Application Form (https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ZQT38H5)

-Write a 1-2 page narrative that discusses the course you will teach, the environment (class size, student population), and how you plan to structure and teach the course. Additional relevant information may also be included.

-Submit a short CV with your application.

-Submit a letter of support from your mentor. Note: Proposals requesting course release time must include a letter of support from a supervisor/administrator indicating the dollar amount.

-Email your narrative, CV, and letter(s) in PDF format to Stan Yoshinobu, Director of AIBL.

Applications are due September 9, 2014 at 11:59 PM PT. All applications received afterwards will not be considered for funding. Applications will be reviewed by committee, and all applicants will be notified of award status by November.
