Grants to Monmouth County, New Jersey municipalities for land acquisition and development projects for open space, park, and recreational use. Funding is intended to support innovative projects that provide access to recreational activities and open spaces; the development of new recreational facilities; enhancement of existing recreational opportunities; and land acquisition.

The Municipal Open Space Program aims to acquire lands for open space preservation and conservation, to acquire land for active and passive recreation, and to develop and redevelop land for parks and recreation purposes. Open space acquisition should target lands identified in local open space preservation and recreation plans, lands that are significant local historic sites or lands that function as important wildlife habitat. Additional priority will be given to State-designated Urban Aid Communities.

Acquisition funding will cover the purchase price of the title in fee-simple interest for land and structures, or the purchase price of public access easements for land. For development projects, the direct cost of facility construction, demolition, renovation, and/or stabilization are eligible.

For detailed lists of eligible projects, see https://co.monmouth.nj.us/documents/127/2019_Municipal_Open_Space_Grant_Program_Manual_web.pdf#page=11.
