Grant Description
Grants of up to $3,000 to Virginia businesses and organizations in eligible locations for creative promotional activities to encourage tourism. Funding is intended to reinvigorate the local travel industry in the wake of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Grants may be used for marketing efforts that attract visitors to the City of Waynesboro.
The goal of the 2023-2024 BOOST Program is to support new marketing efforts for events aimed at attracting tourists from more than 50 miles away to Waynesboro. The City is looking for new, innovative, creative marketing efforts to encourage visitation to Waynesboro for unique events once again.

    Only pre-approved marketing activities will be considered for reimbursement unless otherwise discussed between the event organizer and Waynesboro Tourism staff at the time of the application.   

    Qualifying marketing activities include but are not limited to:

    • Print and digital advertising with Blue Ridge Outdoors
    • Social Media Marketing (as long as the targeted audience is outside of Waynesboro)
    • Print and digital advertising with Virginia Living
    • Print and digital advertising with Northern Virginia Magazine
    • Graphic design and printing services for promotional rack cards, brochures, and banners
    • Professional photography or videography that can be used for promotion (rights must be
    • given to City of Waynesboro for use)
    • Pre-approved travel writers/influencers for content creation (rights must be given to City of Waynesboro for use)
    • Other – discuss with Waynesboro Tourism Staff before submitting your application

    Events and programs receiving BOOST funds will exclusively promote events within the City of Waynesboro.

    Businesses and organizations may apply.

    - Grant recipients must be an approved vendor with the City at the time of award. Contact Stephanie Duffy for further information.
    - The City will schedule time with grant recipients to go over the requirements and expectations attached to the grant.
    Ineligible
    Any marketing outlets with primarily a local audience (not outside of the 50-mile radius) will not be considered for reimbursement. For example: News Virginian, News Leader, Crozet Gazette, CVILLE Weekly are considered local outlets.
    Pre-Application Information
    Applications will be due by noon on Friday, July 28, 2023, and awards will be made by Thursday, August 10, 2023

    All requests for reimbursement must be made within 30 days of the event date AND before June 30, 2024 unless otherwise approved by the Department of Tourism.

    Term of Contract
    The beginning project date will be on or after July 1, 2023. The end date will be no later than June 30, 2024.
