Grants to Alberta nonprofit organizations and community groups for capital improvements to recreational facilities in eligible communities. The purpose of the program is to ensure that cultural and recreational facilities are available to local residents and visitors. Eligible projects are those that benefit the residents of the County of Grande Prairie No. 1.
Two categories of grants are available:
Capital Assistance Grants: The Capital Assistance Grant funds improvements and repairs to the physical infrastructure of recreational or cultural facilities that serve County residents.
The purpose of this policy is to define the process by which the County of Grande Prairie No. 1 provides Capital Grant funding to projects over $10,000 for Capital improvements to a Facility that is owned and/or operated by non-profit organizations or other municipal government and provides a recognizable benefit to County residents.
Improvements or repairs to the physical facilities are eligible.
Expenses related to operations (staffing, insurance, utilities) are not eligible.
Major Capital Grants: The Major Capital Grant funds construction or rehabilitation to the physical infrastructure of facilities that serve County residents.
New construction, rehabilitation, repairs or improvements to facilities that provide a recognizable benefit to County residents are eligible.
Projects requiring structural improvements to a facility may be required to provide a report submitted by an engineer that confirms the condition of the facility. Parks and Recreation will determine is this is required and provide direction for the applicant. The County will cover costs associated with obtaining this report.
Local, non-profits or community volunteer groups that own and/or operate facilities that provide recreational or cultural opportunities for County residents.

- Intake: Opens August 1, 2023, for 2024 Capital Funding requests.
- Deadline: Last day to submit applications is September 30, 2023.
- Applicants present to the Grants Deliberation Committee in early November.
- Funding is approved in early December and successful applicants are announced in early January.
- Conditional Grant Agreements are mailed to successful applicants in January.
- Funds distributed annually in late June/early July.
This grant requires an application and an in-person presentation to the Grants Deliberation Committee.
The Capital Assistance funding stream is available to projects valued between $10,000 and $99,999 with applicants eligible to receive up to 50% of the capital costs of proposed construction, rehabilitation or expansion projects, to a maximum of $50,000.

Major Capital Grants: This grant is for projects that are valued in excess of $100,000.
