Grants to Texas nonprofit organizations in eligible locations for projects and programs with a focus on historical preservation. Funding is intended to support initiatives that will promote the local area for tourists. Funds may be used for a wide range of activities such as historical programming, historic preservation advocacy, and some historic restoration projects. Eligible organizations are those located in Plano.

The City of Plano offers a heritage preservation grant to local nonprofit organizations that support heritage preservation and heritage tourism in Plano. This grant program, and the amount of funds awarded, is available as funds permit. Grant funds may be used for projects consisting of historical programming, historic preservation advocacy, and some historic restoration projects.

Projects and programs funded by the grant program must demonstrate how they will promote tourism in Plano and support Plano’s hospitality industry.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Grants to an agency will generally not increase by more than 25% of the agency’s previous fiscal year’s expenditures minus the above-restricted expenses. Under unusual circumstances and needs, supported by very detailed and complete documentation, exceptions to the 25% limit may be requested by an applicant agency. Exceptions will only be recommended by a 2/3 favorable majority vote of the Heritage Commission.

Term of Contract:

Grants are for approved expenses incurred within the City of Plano Fiscal Year, between October 1 and September 30 of the grant year.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant Eligibility:

- The Agency is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, in good and active standing with the State of Texas Comptroller’s Office.
- The Agency’s proposed use of funds for projects or programs are located within City of Plano and will generate tourism within Plano.
- The Agency’s proposed projects or programs will benefit the citizens of Plano as well as for those audiences and participants attracted through the agency’s broad marketing and promotion practices.
- The Agency’s proposed projects/programs consist of historical programming, historic preservation advocacy, or historic preservation/restoration projects, and demonstrate relationship to these areas to promote heritage tourism and education within Plano.
- The Agency has a history of continuous, stable programming for a minimum of twelve (12) months prior to the grant application due date.
- The Agency has an active Board of Directors in compliance with IRS Section 501(c)(3) that meets at least once per quarter and sets the policy of the agency.
- The Agency has programming, administrative practices and board membership which are compliant with the City of Plano’s Equal Rights Ordinance.
- If the agency was previously funded, the agency successfully fulfilled all prior funding agreement obligations.
- The Agency has the ability to produce valid documentation of all required documents listed within the Required Documentation.

Applications for the 2020-2021 grant year will be available beginning April 3, 2020. The deadline to apply is May 4, 2020.

Hard copies of the grant application will not be accepted.
