Grants to Wisconsin nonprofit organizations and agencies for projects to improve the quality of life for local residents in eligible locations. Funding is intended for initiatives to meet organizational needs related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic as well as the basic needs of beneficiaries. Eligible proposals serve the greater Kenosha area.

Overall, with grants from the Foundation's Unrestricted Funds, the Foundation aims to support projects of not-for-profit organizations that align with the Foundation’s mission “to enhance the quality of life for the residents of Kenosha County.”

For 2022 grants from Unrestricted Funds, the Foundation intends to:

  • Encourage proposals from organizations for programs that meet the basic needs of beneficiaries. Program examples include mental health support services, education-related needs including on-line access, housing /shelter assistance, and food/meal/voucher programs.
  • In light of the ongoing pandemic environment, encourage proposals from organizations to assist and address special needs that continue as a result of the coronavirus pandemic; examples are IT infrastructure work, personal protection equipment and other needs to improve the safety of the organization’s staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries.

Additionally, for grants from the Unrestricted Funds, the Kenosha Community Foundation gives priority to:

  • Collaborative efforts involving two or more organizations that jointly planning and delivering projects that offer creative solutions or ideas.
  • Programs and projects that use Foundation funds to leverage other funding sources.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

In awarding grants from Unrestricted Funds, the Kenosha Community Foundation considers support for:
- New not-for-profit organizations that show promise for success, demonstrate sound management practices, clear goals relevant to community needs and effective ways to achieve those goals.
- Established agencies that are either seeking to expand their services and develop new programs or that are experiencing temporary financial difficulty.

Conversely, the Foundation does not consider support for:
- Repeat grants to the same project on an open-ended basis.
- The regular, operational expenses of a program except in the initial year(s) of a new initiative.
- Contributions to endowment funds or grants for annual campaigns, debt retirement, or lobbying.
- Sectarian (religious) programs.
- Direct grants to individuals.
- Grants to Organizations that serve beneficiaries outside of the greater Kenosha area.
