Fellowships for Israel science professors, researchers, and PhD students or those who have completed their PhD to pursue research in France. Fellows may conduct research in any science-related field, including exact sciences, life sciences, medicine, humanities, and social sciences. Two types of fellowships are offered: Fellowships for Studies and Training Research Fellowships.

Fellowships for Studies are given for Masters or Doctorates. Israelis who want to do their Master in France and can provide a registration proof from a French University are eligible.  Israelis who want to do their PhD in France must provide a registration proof from a French Graduate School or a letter from a thesis supervisor, affiliated to a French University. For both types of fellowships, the studies will be carried out in a French University, a School of Engineering or a Public Research Laboratory.

Training Research Fellowships - High-Level Scientific Stay: This fellowship is for

  • Israeli scientists, who are currently studying for a Ph.D. in Israel or who have completed their Ph.D., who want to carry out research in a French research institution. The research will be carried out in a French University, a School of Engineering or a Public Research Laboratory.
  • Researchers who have completed their Ph.D (up to 5 years after Ph.D graduation) and want to carry out research in France for 4 months and up to 6 months  
  • Researchers who have completed their Ph.D (more than 5 years after Ph.D graduation) and want to carry out research in France for 4 months and up to 6 months. 

In addition to receiving funding, fellows will benefit from the advantages available to French students, including social security, access to university restaurants, lodgings on campus, and more. Moreover, Chateaubriand Fellows are advised and helped by the French Consulate to obtain information about the conditions of entry and their stay in France.

The most important criterion of selection are excellent academic background of the candidate, scientific quality of the project, scientific quality of the host team, interest of the project for the French-Israeli scientific cooperation over the long term.

Estimated Size of Grant:

- 700 € per month for a Master or a PhD student - for a period of full 12 months.
- 1704 € per month for Israeli PhD students, affiliated to an Israeli Research Center and researchers, affilliated to an Israeli Research Center and up to 5 years after their graduation - for a period from 4 to of 6 months
- 2055 € per month for Israeli researchers, affiliated to an Israeli Research Center and more than 5 years after their graduation - for a period from 4 to 6 months
- Health insurance is provided by Campus France (French organization which takes care of your stay in France and your allowance)

Term of Contract:

For both types of Studies fellowships (Masters and Doctorates), the programs will last a full year, from September 1, 2020 until August 31, 2021.

The fellowships can be renewable for Master students for 1 additional year, in order for the fellowships to be given during the whole Master degree in France. A statement that the student is admitted in 2nd year + record of the first year's grades must to attached to the prolongation application and needs to be sent before the end of May 2021.

The fellowships can be renewable for PhD students for 2 additional years, in order for the fellowships to be given during the whole PhD degree in France. A letter from the student thesis director must to attached to the prolongation application and needs to be sent before the end of May 2021.

Training Research fellowships are for a period of minimum 4 months and up to 6 months are non-renewable and non splittable.

For researchers, fellowships laureates will have to start their stay in France no earlier than 1 September 2020 and no later than 31 December 2020. They will have to return to Israel no later than June 30, 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant Eligibility:
- Applicants must have the Israeli citizenship; dual French-Israeli citizenship owners are not eligible to apply
- Applicants must have been accepted or invited by a French university, laboratory or research institute

Researchers who do not have student status, will have to provide a valid employment contract or an attestation of fellowship from their home institution in Israel, in order to carry out a mobility in their host laboratory in France.

Diploma:
- For PhD students, candidate should have an Israeli Master if the full PhD is done in France OR must be registered for doctorate studies in an Israeli university.
- For Researchers and Professors, no diploma origin conditions.

Pre-Application Information:

The deadline for applying is April 30th, 2020.

The jury is composed of Israeli and/or French university professors under the chairmanship of the Scientific Attaché and results are sent to candidates by the end of April 2020.

Please Note:
- The monthly allowance is payable in France and is not taxable.
- At the end of your fellowships period in France, a report to the French Embassy in Israel is required regarding your stay in France (i.e., scientific significance, probable future developments, comments on the reception/hospitality, etc.). This document should be sent before the end of your fellowship.
