France Israel Fellows

Fellowships for Israel researchers, Masters and PhD students, and scientists to pursue research in France. Fellows may conduct research in any science-related field, including exact sciences, life sciences, medicine, humanities, and social sciences. Fellowships are aimed at encouraging and supporting mobility and exchanges of Israeli students and young researchers to France. Two types of fellowships are offered: Fellowships for Studies and Training Research Fellowships.
Fellowships for Studies are given for Masters or Doctorates. Israelis who want to do their Master in France and can provide a registration proof from a French University are eligible. Israelis who want to do their PhD in France must provide a registration proof from a French Graduate School or a letter from a thesis supervisor, affiliated with a French University. For both types of fellowships, the studies will be carried out in a French University, a School of Engineering, or a Public Research Laboratory.
Training Research Fellowships - High-Level Scientific Stay. For Israeli scientists, who are currently studying for a Ph.D. in Israel or who have completed their Ph.D., and want to carry out research in a French research institution. In addition to receiving funding, fellows will benefit from the advantages available to French students, including social security, access to university restaurants, lodgings on campus, and more. Moreover, Chateaubriand Fellows are advised and helped by the French Consulate to obtain information about the conditions of entry and their stay in France.
The most important criterion of selection are excellent academic background of the candidate, scientific quality of the project, scientific quality of the host team, interest of the project for the French-Israeli scientific cooperation over the long term.

Chateaubriand fellowships in a few figures :
- 700 € per month for a Master
- 1060 € per month for a PhD student
- 1704 € per month for Israeli PhD students, affiliated to an Israeli Research Center and researchers, affiliated to an Israeli Research Center and up to 5 years after their graduation
- 2055 € per month for Israeli researchers, affiliated to an Israeli Research Center and more than 5 years after their graduation
- Health insurance is provided by Campus France (French organization that takes care of your stay in France and your allowance)
For both types of Studies fellowships (Masters and Doctorates), the fellowships will last a full year, from September 1st, 2021 until August, 31st, 2022. For 2 years Master programs, the fellowships can be renewed for 1 additional year, in order to complete the program. For PhD programs, the fellowships can be renewed up to 2 additional years, in order to complete the program.
Training Research Fellowships: 4 to 6 months. The fellowships laureates will have to start their stay in France no earlier than 1 May 2021 and no later than 1 October 2021. They will have to return to Israel no later than January 31, 2022.
