Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $15,000 to British Columbia registered charities for projects that enhance the quality of life in an eligible region. Applicants must make contact before applying. Funding is intended to support community needs in the focus areas of: animal welfare; arts and culture; children, youth and family; education; environment; health and community services; heritage and historical; and global initiatives (must have local involvement or benefits). Projects must be in the Central Okanagan region, but priority will be given to activities within School District #23 boundaries.

Key Goals of the Project Grant Program:

  • To support new and special initiatives/projects and support the enhancement of current programs.
  • To support organizations with sound fiscal management and diversified sources of revenue.

The Central Okanagan Foundation encourages applicants to locate other funding sources.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligibility:
-Applicant is a charity with a current Revenue Canada Charitable Registration number (BIN – Business Identification Number).
-If not a registered charity, an intermediary is required. The intermediary must share similar values/purposes as the charity. (A library would not be an acceptable intermediary for a little league baseball team.)
-Funding is available twice in a five year period for the same initiative/project or program enhancement.

Not eligible:
-An organization’s core or operating expenses, i.e. an annual event or performance
-Ongoing / annual contractor’s fees
-Retroactive funding (Activities begun before monies would be received are not eligible.)
-Debt retirement, reserves and mortgage pay-downs
-Activities of religious organizations that serve primarily their membership and / or for direct religious purposes
-School construction (including playground equipment)
-Annual fund drives
-Requests for improvements/additions to land, or property, which might revert to private ownership

All organizations will be notified of the status of their application when Board approval is received, approximately six to eight weeks after the grant application deadline.
