Grant of up to $4,000 to an Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas librarian affiliated with a funding source member institution for mentorship opportunities. The purpose of this award is to prepare and motivate a librarian for a leadership position in an academic health sciences library.
The mission of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM) is to advance the progress of medicine and improve the public health by providing all U.S. health professionals with equal access to biomedical information and improving the public's access to information to enable them to make informed decisions about their health.
The award will pair a librarian with a SCAMeL academic health sciences library director who will serve as his or her mentor. The SCAMeL volunteer mentor will introduce the award recipient to the financial and administrative roles and responsibilities of a health sciences library director. The award will include visits to the mentor’s library, the SCAMeL meeting at SCC/MLA, and an orientation to the NNLM SCR office at SCC/MLA.
The site visit to the mentor’s library allows the recipient to experience the academic health sciences library and its institutional leadership under the tutelage of a library director.
Funding for this award is intended to cover only costs related to travel to the above-mentioned locations.
