Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $50,000 to Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota nonprofits to acquire a physical asset that helps the organization deliver services to its clients. Priority will be given to projects that address a documented need and will increase the capacity, effectiveness, efficiency, quality, and overall success of the organization.

Preference will be given to organizations that have an annual operating budget between $350,000 and $3.9 million, and have limited access to other sources of funds for capital projects.

Requests will not be considered for:
- More than 25% of the total project cost or any amount over $50,000, whichever is less
- Endowments, operating reserves, or debt reduction
- Real estate purchases
- General operating needs (e.g., ongoing staff costs, replacement costs, program-related costs.)

Most grants are expected to range from $10,000 to $30,000, although grant requests of up to $50,000 will be considered.

Term of Contract:

Projects must be underway by December 31, 2015 and completed no later than June 1, 2016.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Organizations that meet all of the following criteria may apply:
- Be located in and provide direct services to a large number of people in the nine-county Twin Cities area (Anoka, Carver, Chisago, Dakota, Hennepin, Isanti, Ramsey, Scott and western Washington).
- Be established and operating for at least five consecutive years.
- Have secured at least 75% of the funds needed for the proposed project.
- Have not received any type of capital support from the Foundation in the past five years (2010-2014).
- Comply with the Foundation’s general grant guidelines at http://bit.ly/1mWKwYS.

Generally, grants will not be considered for:
- Direct funding to individuals
- Health or housing-related emergency assistance to individuals
- Benefits, fund-raisers, walk-a-thons, telethons, galas, or other revenue-generating events
- Advertising
- Organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, culture, age, physical ability or disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, status as a military veteran or genetic information
- Veterans’ and fraternal organizations
- Organizations providing services outside the United States
- Political or lobbying organizations
- Replacement of government funding
- Youth sports or athletic activities
- Start-up support for new organizations
- Organizations that re-grant funds
- Schools (traditional public, charter, or private) and school-related fundraising entities that support larger educational institutions
- Neighborhood organizing groups and resident-led associations.
