Grant Description
Grants to Kentucky counties for the cleanup of unauthorized garbage dumping grounds throughout the state. Preference will be given to sites according to the size of the dumping area; how dangerous its contents are; and its proximity to conservation areas, such as streams, supply wells, and wetlands, as well as to sensitive receptors.

An “illegal open dump,” as defined in 401 KAR 49:080, Section 1, means any facility or site for the disposal of solid waste that does not have a valid permit issued by the cabinet or does not meet the environmental performance standards established by the cabinet and is equal to or greater than two (2) consolidated cubic yards of solid waste.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Counties that are in compliance with their five-year solid waste management plans can now apply for funds to clean up illegal open dumps.

Pre-Application Information
Applications for an Illegal Open Dump Cleanup Grant are due by 4:30 p.m. EST on November 1, 2023.
