Request a Grant Writer

Award of $5,000 and awards of $1,000 to Ontario professional artist to acknowledge and support art contributions to the local community. The awards are intended to honor artists in any discipline who have emerged past the beginning stage of their careers and are recognized as professional artists. The award was established to acknowledge and encourage the achievements of Ottawa mid-career artists who have become established professional working artists contributing to the community.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • The applicant is clearly recognized as an established professional artist, having developed their arts practice beyond the emerging stage of their career.
  • The artistic merit of the applicant’s body of work. Consideration will be given to the recipient’s achievements and activities that have taken place in the last three years.
  • The applicant demonstrates involvement in Ottawa’s arts community.
  • The breadth of the applicant’s exposure and recognition at the local, national and international levels.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The recipient will receive a $5,000 award; two other finalists will receive $1,000 awards.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants for this award must:
- Nominate themselves or be nominated by an individual or group who may only endorse one applicant in each category per year.
- Have lived in the National Capital Region (defined as 75 km from Parliament Hill) for the previous three years.
- Be involved in Ottawa’s professional arts community and work as a professional artist that seeks payment for their work.
- Be recognized by artists working in the same artistic discipline and has a history of public presentation or publication.
- Not have previously received this award.
- Not have been shortlisted for this award in the previous year.
- Not be currently enrolled in full-time training.

For the purpose of this award, a mid-career artist is considered as:
- Having a body of work they feel reflects the accomplishments of a mid-career artist.
- Having practiced professionally for at least nine and no more than 18 years.
- Having received local, national, and international recognition for their work.
