Grants of up to $30,000 to British Columbia arts and cultural organizations planning to undertake specific activities that will increase their capacity and contribute to long term sustainability. Funding is available to support specific initiatives that fall within one of the following three broad categories: human resources, marketing and development, and capital asset purchase.
Please note you may only apply under one of these three components:
1) Human Resources: Build artistic, administrative and/or governance depth by investing in human resources (up to $30,000);
2) Marketing/Development: Implement marketing and/or development initiatives (up to $30,000);
3) Capital Asset: Purchase capital assets (up to $20,000).
Capacity refers to the combination and balance of an organization's administrative direction, governance, production, marketing and systems as it works to fulfill its mandate, achieve its mission and develop artistically.
Building capacity refers to developing, enhancing or expanding one or more of these areas to achieve sustainability.
Sustainability refers to an organization’s ability to use its capacity to negotiate a complex environment while it fulfills its mandate and develops strengths as it achieves its mission over time.
Capacity and sustainability are separate but related concepts. An organization can implement an initiative that builds capacity leading to greater sustainability. The initiative itself does not have to be sustainable within the life of the organization.
