Grant Description
Grants of up to $20,000 to Pennsylvania nonprofit organizations in eligible areas for programs that improve operational efficiency. Applicants must contact program staff prior to applying. Funding is intended to support organizations in merging with each other in order to improve efficiency and outcomes. Organizations must serve Lancaster County.

The Partnership Program supports the intentional and formal steps of bringing together multiple community benefit organizations or a community benefit organization with a for-profit organization through a merger, the legal binding of two or more organizations with overlapping or complementary missions, audiences or services into one organization to increase organizational efficiency and mission-related outcomes.

  • Marketing/branding
  • Organizational development planning
  • Consultant or facilitator fees
  • Meeting expenses

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility for funding is determined based on due diligence and assessment of the following:
- Current 501(c)(3) designation from the IRS
- Registered with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Charitable Organizations unless otherwise exempt per the Institutions of Purely Public Charity Act
- Complete IRS Form 990 Annually
- Annual Audit or a financial review by an independent CPA within the last 12 months
- In good standing with all existing awards and contracts with the Lancaster County Community Foundation

Ineligible
Please note the Community Foundation will not typically fund:
- Creation of a new organization
- Schools
- Capital campaigns/capital costs (equipment, building costs, maintenance)
- Political campaigns
- Expenses incurred before the grant is awarded
- Cemetery associations
- Religious causes that further a specific belief/agenda

Pre-Application Information
Applications will be accepted at any time until December 1, 2023, or until available funding is exhausted.

Draft applications due for staff feedback (optional): Min. 4 weeks before final submission.

Start a conversation with Dave Koser prior to submitting an application. If your organization is eligible, you will receive an access code. Once you have an access code, login or register as a Grant Applicant and enter the access code to begin the application process.

Decisions are typically reached within 4-6 weeks of application submission.

Consult with staff if you have other ideas for spending the funds.

Application Process
1. Complete Letter of Intent (LOI) in the grant portal at Lancfound.org/grants. The LOI provides basic organizational information, and a brief description of your project concept. Please note the LOI will ask for a Memorandum of Understanding outlining intent to merge at the board level.
2. After LOI is approved, we will provide full access to the grant application through the same portal.
3. Complete the full application by the final deadline.
4. Draft applications are eligible for staff review and feedback before final submission
