Award of $2,000 to a USA, Canada, or International musician or musical scholar for contributions to the field of historical music. Funding may be used for recordings, monographs, articles, editions, public performances, and other projects. Funding is intended as a grant-in-aid to stimulate active cooperation between scholars and performers.

Both scholars and performers may apply. Applicants need not be members of the Society.

The applicant must submit a description of the project, a detailed budget, and supporting materials such as articles or recordings of performances which are relevant to the project.

The winner receives a monetary prize ($2,000) and a certificate, conferred at the Annual Business Meeting and Awards Presentation of the Society by the chair of the committee.
