CHS Foundation/National Agriculture in the Classroom

Grants of $500 to USA K-12 teachers to enhance student understanding of agriculture by incorporating agricultural lessons into the core curriculum. Funding may be used for Grant money can be used for animal science projects involving embryology, aquaculture or ranch-related projects, field trips or farm tours. Teachers may propose creative classroom projects that use agriculture concepts to teach math, nutrition, reading, writing, social studies, or science.
Those who receive one of the 15 grants will be required to use at least two lessons from the National Agricultural Literacy Curriculum Matrix on the National Agriculture in the Classroom website at www.agclassroom.org or from their state Agriculture in the Classroom program. In addition, grant proposals must demonstrate how they will involve a local farmer, rancher or agriculture industry representative in the project.
Grant money for school gardens can be used to purchase the following items:
-Seeds (fruits and vegetables)
-Plants (fruits and vegetables)
-Raised bed materials
-Irrigation/watering system materials
K-12 students must be directly involved in project.

Grant checks not cashed within 60 days after receipt will become null and void.
Eligible Applicants: Certified, core academic teachers engaged in classroom instruction at the kindergarten through 12th grade level who wish to use agricultural concepts to teach core subject areas and enhance students' understanding of agriculture.
Grant money cannot be used for salary or compensation.
Grant money cannot be used for clothing, promotional items or giveaway items.
Grant check will be made payable to the school, not to an individual.
The deadline for grant proposals is September 15, 2018 at 5 p.m. Eastern Time. Grant proposals will be accepted as online submissions only. Applicants will be notified via email by in October.
Some amount of in-kind or monetary contributions must be secured before receiving the grant.
