Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $10,000 to USA and Canada small and medium-sized farmers and aggregators to implement sustainability practices that will improve environmental impact and ensure the availability and safety of produce in the market. Funding is intended to help local farms upgrade operations, invest in food safety, and implement sustainable technology.

Grants are available in three categories:

Wholesale Readiness:

  • Delivery Transportation
  • Marketing
  • Infrastructure Expansions
  • Planting, Harvesting, and Equipment
  • Packaging

Sustainability:

  • Organic Certification
  • Waste Reduction
  • Water Re-use System
  • Soil Quality Improvements
  • Energy Improvements

Food Safety:

  • Traceability
  • Continuing Food Safety education
  • Record-Keeping Software
  • Water Testing/Sanitation
  • GAP Improvements

Estimated Size of Grant:

Grants will be awarded in three independent categories. The top prize in each category will be $10,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligibility requirements for Non-Greener Fields Together local farms:
- Must be in operation in 2019
- Making no more than $100m in annual sales
- At least 50% of business made of of produce production or aggregation
- Must receive a written nomination from a PRO*ACT local purveyor that does or plants t do business with you in the future
- Located in the U.S. or Canada

All Greener Fields Together local farm partners are automatically eligible to participate.

Pre-Application Information:

The application period is October 1, 2019, to December 15, 2019, at 11:59 PM PST.

Expert panel Review will be between December 17, 2019, and January 10, 2020.

All applicants, regardless of status, will be notified of the decision by email by January 21st, 2020.
