Grant Description
Grants to Virginia nonprofit organizations for programs addressing critical needs of the community in eligible locations. Consideration will be given to requests for program support, capacity building, or general support purposes. Funding may be used to start new programs or to support, enhance, or expand existing programs. Projects must benefit residents of Northern Virginia, defined as the areas within Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties and the Cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, and Manassas Park.

For the 2023 application cycle, the Community Foundation accepted requests in the following categories.

  • Aging: To support the needs of those 65 and older in Northern Virginia.
  • Arts: To celebrate, promote, and support the arts in Northern Virginia.
  • Child & Youth Development: To help children and youth to thrive.
  • Education: To increase the number of children and adults who are prepared to enter a competitive workforce in the 21st century.
  • Environment: Protecting Northern Virginia’s Natural Environment
  • Lamond Fund to Benefit Children and Youth in Alexandria and Fairfax County: To support Alexandria City and Fairfax County
  • The Latino Engagement and Achievement Fund (LEAF): To support civic engagement for the region’s Latino population
  • Mental Health: To nurture the mental health and well-being of all members of the Northern Virginia community.
  • Military Personnel & Their Families: To support the growing needs of military personnel and their families.
  • Safety Net Support: To provide basic needs support in Northern Virginia.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Organizations providing services in Northern Virginia (defined as the areas within Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties and the Cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas and Manassas Park) can apply for funding.

Applicants must be 501(c)(3) organizations providing charitable or educational services.

Ineligible
Local, state and federal government entities are not eligible to apply.

Applications for capital improvements, endowments, or scholarship awards will not be considered.

Organizations are limited to one application per grant cycle. Multiple applications will not be considered.
