Foundation For The Carolinas - The Cole (Richmond County) Foundation

Grants to North Carolina nonprofit organizations, government agencies, educational institutions, and congregations for programs that benefit residents of Richmond County. Programs must focus on the areas of arts and culture, economic development, education (K-12 and post-secondary), recreation, and human services.
Funding may be requested for program support and capital projects, as outlined below:
Priority will be given to local proposals that evidence volunteer leadership and/or grassroots participation and financial support. Projects will be evaluated on the basis of:
(1) Feasibility in terms of leadership and plan,
(2) Significance in terms of the importance of the issue being addressed, and
(3) The project’s potential for success.
Capital Grants for Land, Buildings, and Equipment
Priority will be given to proposals that demonstrate an organizational commitment in terms of leadership, financial support, and other resources. Priority will be given to “challenge grants” whereby other donors make matching gifts.
A Note About Future Funding
A project or program must have potential continuity through other funding sources in future years.

Grants are one year in duration.
Grants must be awarded to eligible organizations including 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, congregations, governmental and educational institutions for projects that will serve the residents of Richmond County, NC. If the organization conducting the project is not an eligible organization, a grant can be applied for under the fiscal sponsorship of an eligible organization.
The applicant may be an existing organization, a coalition of organizations, or a new organization. If the organization has been in existence past the seed stage, the proposal must be outside the realm of possible inclusion in the regular ongoing operating budget.
The following areas do not fall within The Cole Foundation’s current funding priorities:
- Ongoing operating budgets
- Endowment Funds
- Grants individuals (e.g. scholarships, hardship)
- Publication of books
Applications are accepting starting on July 9, 2018. Please note that the online grant application system closes promptly at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Friday, August 17th, 2018 and will not accept late submissions. Award notifications will be made in late March.
