Grants of up to $8,000 to Connecticut nonprofit organizations, government agencies, schools, and other charitable entities in eligible areas for programs that benefit local residents. First-time applicants must contact program staff prior to applying. Funding is intended to support activities and services that promote self-sufficiency through education and employment. Eligible programs benefit the residents of Windham.

Priority is given to programs that:

  • Promote individual and family economic security;
  • Increase food security and access to nutritious food;
  • Decrease homelessness through programs that promote diversion and intervention.

Preference is given to programs that are:

  • Collaborative in nature;
  • Rooted in evidence-based, solution-oriented approaches;
  • Include specific, measurable outcomes; and
  • Effect positive change over the long term.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Eligible applicants may submit grant requests for up to $8,000. Few grants are made at the very top of this range.

Term of Contract:

Grants for multiyear programs may be considered if the applicant can demonstrate need.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants must be for the benefit of residents of the Town of Windham, Connecticut.

Applicants generally must be 501(c)(3) charitable organizations, schools, municipal or governmental agencies, or partner with a nonprofit fiscal agent. We do not make grants to individuals or to for-profit endeavors.

Grants will not support capital or endowment campaigns, litigation costs, religious programming, endowment campaigns, deficit funding, or debt retirement. Grants are not typically made for special events.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications must be submitted by 5 pm on Wednesday, December 26, 2020. Final decisions will be made and applicants will be notified in February 2021.

It is recommended that grant seekers begin by contacting Deb Battit, Program Officer. New applicant organizations are required to contact the Foundation before beginning an application.
