Grants to British Columbia nonprofit organizations in eligible regions to improve the quality of life in local communities. Funding is intended for programs and activities within the focus areas of fine arts, education, culture, health, youth, community, social and family, and sports and recreation. Eligible applicants serve residents within the BVC area, which extends from Topley to Kitwanga including Granisle, Houston, Telkwa, Smithers, the Hazeltons, and Upper Skeena regions in North Central B.C.

New for 2021, the Foundation will be pleased to offer a grant from the Paul Backhouse Memorial Fund, which seeks to support outcomes in the areas of outdoor physical activity, environmental initiatives, children and families, and marginalized communities in the Bulkley Valley area. Applicants should submit applications through the regular process.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Grants have been awarded for up to $6,000, but the average grant is in the $1,000 to $3,000 range.

Term of Contract:

Projects must be completed within 12 months from the grant approval date. Any extensions or changes must be approved by the Foundation.

Multi-year grants and multi-agency grants may be awarded in some cases and additional conditions will apply.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Organizations that are registered charities or qualified donees under the Income Tax Act are eligible to apply for BVCF grants. Under special circumstances, partnerships may be arranged for groups that normally would not qualify for funding.

Organizations that are NOT registered charities or qualified donees under the Income Tax Act may be eligible to apply for BVCF grants by contracting with an agency that is a registered charity, which will:
- Agree to have their charitable registration number used on the application
- Accept any funds on behalf of the applicant
- Provide a written statement of their agreement.

Grants are NOT made to individuals or businesses.

Not Funded:
- Annual core operating expenses, salaries and wages of organizations
- Operating or capital deficits
- Fund raising or endowment campaigns
- Religious organizations for direct religious activities
- Travel expenses unless essential to project delivery

The BVCF does not fund any expenses that predate project award date.

Pre-Application Information:

October 15 - grant cycle begins

November 30 - 5 PM - deadline for grant applications

Organizations may submit more than one grant application, however, in most cases only one will be funded per grant cycle.
