Grant Description
Fellowships to USA, Canada, and International academics for writing and research on the subject of the Holocaust and other meaningful research topics. Early-career investigators are encouraged to apply. Eligible candidates include PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and investigators who are not affiliated with universities.

The Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies is pleased to award fellowships to support significant research and writing about the Holocaust and related topics that would benefit from a period of residence at the Museum and access to its resources. These fellowships are designed for scholars at all levels of their academic careers who are at least PhD candidates (ABD), including scholars not affiliated with universities. A principal focus of the overall fellowship program is to ensure the development of a new generation of scholars, and those early in their careers are especially encouraged to apply.

A fellowship at the Mandel Center not only provides time to research and access to world-renowned archives but also an extensive network of people and institutions. From tailored onboarding meetings with Visiting Scholar Programs staff, to personal guidance through the Emerging Scholars Publications Program, to presentations by fellows and staff alike, fellows participate in an intimate environment designed to create the most fruitful research experience possible. Whether one is researching, writing, or participating in a program, fellows are able to work on their projects while being involved in a scholarly and close community.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
These fellowships are designed for scholars at all levels of their academic careers who are at least PhD candidates (ABD), including scholars not affiliated with universities. Scholars early in their careers are especially encouraged to apply.

Immediate postdocs and faculty between appointments will also be considered. Applicants who have received a fellowship award from the Mandel Center in previous cycles may not re-apply unless seven years have passed since the end date of their previous residency.

The Mandel Center welcomes applications to the Annual Fellowship program for any relevant project from citizens of any country. Please note that because of the COVID-19 pandemic, some visa processing has taken longer than anticipated.

Fellows may not hold a Mandel Center fellowship concurrently with other funded fellowships.

The Mandel Center does not provide support allowances for accompanying family members.

Pre-Application Information
The competition will open on August 15, 222 and will close on November 15, 2022, by 11:59 PM EST.

Applicants will be notified of outcomes by April 2023. Candidates' understanding is appreciated, as the ongoing pandemic may affect the program in a variety of ways, such as the program's ability to accommodate preferred residency terms.

All applications must be submitted in English via the online application.

The Mandel Center is able to provide visa assistance to fellows and their dependents, if necessary. Fellows are responsible for securing their own housing accommodations and health insurance.
*Please note that because of the COVID-19 pandemic, some visa processing has been suspended and many borders are closed to travel for the foreseeable future. Therefore, most fellowships will operate on a quasi-virtual basis for Fall and Winter 2021.
