Grant Description
Grants of up to $50,000 to Nunavut government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and individuals for projects that promote French culture and the French language in local communities. Eligible projects must provide a service to the French-speaking community, help to grow and develop the community, and develop the French presence in Nunavut.

French Services Development Program:

The purpose of the French Services Development Program is to support structuring initiatives that provide a direct service or benefits to Nunavut’s Francophone community. Such structuring initiatives aim to promote and protect the French language and the vitality of Nunavut's Francophone community.

To be eligible, a project must satisfy the following three criteria:

  • Offer a direct service to Nunavut’s Francophone community;
  • Help in the growth and development of Nunavut’s Francophone community; and
  • Develop the French presence in Nunavut.

French Language Arts and Culture Development Program:

The aim of the French Language Arts and Culture Development program is to:

  •  Encourage and support cultural, artistic and heritage efforts among the Francophone community;
  •  Promote the wealth and diversity of Nunavut’s Francophone community’s arts, culture and heritage.

To be eligible, a project must satisfy the following three criteria:

  • Enable members of the Francophone community to actively participate in cultural projects;
  • Contribute to the creation and/or appreciation of a cultural production (including literature, music, film, theatre, photography, performing arts, visual arts, etc.);
  • Develop the French presence in Nunavut.

For Both Programs:

Eligible expenses include (but are not limited to) costs related to implementing projects for the delivery of French services to Nunavut’s Francophone community. Up to 10% of administrative costs are eligible, depending on the nature of the project.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Applications for this program may be submitted by not-for-profit organizations, municipalities and individuals.

French Services Development Program:
The following expenses will not be considered for funding:
- Capital projects;
- Recurring operating expenses (e.g. salaries of permanent employees);
- Structuring, collaboration, networking or strategic-planning projects;
- Needs analyses and assessments;
- Activities of an international scope;
- The purchase of equipment, food and furnishings.

French Language Arts and Culture Development Program:
The following expenses will not be considered for funding:
- Capital expenditures;
- An organization's operating expenditures (e.g. salaries of permanent employees);
- Regular coordination, networking and strategic planning
- Needs analysis and assessments;
- Professional training;
- Activities of an international dimension.

Application deadline: January 31st

It is strongly recommended that you discuss your project with the program resource person before applying. This person will be able to tell you about the documentation requirements, give advice concerning the eligibility of your project and tell you about the final reporting requirements, which will be explained in the Contribution Agreement (between the applicant and the Department of Culture and Heritage).

Estimated Size of Grant
Program grants will reflect the scope of the projects and the availability of funds, up to a maximum of $50,000.
