Grants of up to $15,000 to USA nonprofit organizations, agencies, and Indian tribes for projects and services benefiting underserved breast cancer patients and their families in eligible locations. Funding categories include emergency services, complementary therapies, direct services, diagnostic testing, and navigational services. Applicant organizations must be providing services in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, or Sonoma.

Projects must be specific to breast health and/or breast cancer. Services must be provided for women, men, and their families living in the Bay Area. Equipment costs will be considered on a case-by-case basis and should be used exclusively on this project. Salaries, if requested, are for personnel specific to this project only.

To Celebrate Life funds the following:

  • Emergency Services (e.g. financial assistance, housing, utilities, co-pays, prescriptions, dental)
  • Direct Services (e.g. lymphedema garments/services, prosthetics, meals, grocery vouchers, transportation vouchers, support groups)
  • Diagnostic Testing
    • Screening and diagnostic mammograms – at negotiated rates
    • Diagnostic sonograms and ultrasounds – at negotiated rates
    • A limited number of MRIs for surgical decision-making – at negotiated rates
    • A limited number of ultrasound guided biopsies – at negotiated rates
    • A limited number of stereotactic biopsies – at negotiated rates
  • Navigational Services (e.g. translation, traversing the medical system, follow-up)
  • Complementary Therapies (holistic modalities e.g. therapeutic massage, recovery fitness training, guided imagery, Jin Shin Jyutsu, nutrition consultation, acupuncture, manual lymph drainage)

Estimated Size of Grant:

Grant awards generally range from $5,000 to $15,000.

Term of Contract:

Grant period begins April 1, 2021 and will conclude on March 31, 2022.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be a US nonprofit (federally tax-exempt) organization, e.g. nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and Indian tribes are eligible.

Applicant organizations must be providing services in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, or Sonoma.

To Celebrate Life does not fund:
• Any surgical procedures
• Research pertaining to breast cancer
• Salaries for Executive Directors
• Education
• Indirect costs (organization/agency rent, utilities, printing, postage, etc.)

Pre-Application Information:

Calendar for Grant Applications & Evaluations (next Grants year process to begin in December, 2020)
- December 15, 2020: 2021 Grant Application and Grant Application Instructions will be available
- February 1, 2021: Applications must be received by To Celebrate Life no later than February 1, 2021.
- February & March 2021: Grants Committee reviews proposals and meets to recommend new grantees.
- April 2021: Grant awards are funded.
- September – October 2021: Grant recipients receive site visits.
