Grant Description
Grants to British Columbia registered charities for projects that benefit the residents of eligible locations. Funding is intended to support programming, capital, and operating costs. The purpose of funding is to assist new and existing projects. Eligible applicants must serve the Regional District of the Okanagan-Similkameen.

Applications are encouraged which address demonstrated need(s) in the community, build effective community partnerships and are community-led with volunteer support, improve organizational effectiveness and plan for continuation of the project beyond initial funding.

The Foundation does not have specific priorities or areas of interest for its granting this year. Instead, organizations are encouraged to apply for funding to support what is needed most. This may include, but is not limited to:

  • Operations (including multi-year requests)
  • Program/project delivery
  • Pilot projects/programs
  • Purchase or upgrading of equipment or technology
  • Renovations or repairs
  • Research costs

Sustainable Development Goals (SDG): Applicants will need to identify at least one or more of the 17 SDG’s their project/program is addressing.

Grants will be made to not-for-profit and charitable organizations whose projects, programs or activities align closely with the charitable purposes of the Foundation.

Ineligible
The Foundation does not make grants for projects specifically intended to promote a specific faith or faith-based perspective. However, faith-based organizations are encouraged to apply for projects that provide direct support or benefit to the wider community.

Grants will not be awarded to:
- Establishing or adding to endowment funds
- Establishing or adding to operating reserves
- Establishing or adding to a capital campaign
- Sponsoring a general fundraising event
- Projects that have a primary purpose of promoting political or religious activities or beliefs

Pre-Application Information
Timeline:
- Mid-August: Application cycle begins
- October 15th, 2023: Application cycle ends. All applications must be received by 5 PM.
- October - November 2023: Grants and Community Committees review applications and make recommendations.
- End of November/early December: Board of Directors approves recommendations. Applicants are notified.
- Early January 2024: Grant payments can be made to successful applicants.

Estimated Size of Grant
In 2023, most grants fell in the $5,000 to $15,000 range. However, you are encouraged to apply for the amount you need to successfully run your project, program or activity.
