Grants to Kansas nonprofit organizations in eligible locations that demonstrate and document excellence in quality artistic and cultural programs. Applicants must consult with program staff prior to applying. Funding is intended to provide operational support to qualifying arts and cultural organizations serving the Wichita community.

The City of Wichita strives to encourage and provide financial support to the arts and cultural organizations that demonstrate and document excellence in quality artistic and cultural programs, professional artistic and administrative staffing, financial stability, and their contribution to the community at large. The objective is to provide fiduciary support to exemplary organizations that contribute to the quality of life and add to the economic growth and vitality of the community.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Maximum amounts are based on an organization's prior year actual expenses excluding in-kind services;
- Large organizations with annual budgets of $500,000 or more, the maximum request allowed is 8% or up to $75,000.
- Medium organizations with annual budgets between $250,000 and $499,999, the maximum request allowed is 10%.
- Small organizations with annual budgets from $1 to $249,999, the maximum request allowed is 15%.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Cultural Funding Grants provide operational support for qualifying 501(c)(3) non-profit arts and cultural organizations that significantly serve Wichita citizens.

An eligible applicant is one that meets all of the following criteria:
- Must have a mission statement that aligns with the following definition: “An organization that provides education and artistic leadership to the public through the production, exhibition, advancement or preservation of visual or performing art, literature, film, science, natural or cultural history.”
- Is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
- Has as its primary purpose to produce or present arts or cultural programs.
- Must serve the citizens of the City of Wichita.
- Is not a “Cultural Institution.” The Cultural Arts Plan defines “Cultural Institutions” as arts and cultural organizations with operations and activities owned and/or operated by the City of Wichita.
- Has a minimum of five (5) years of operational history serving the citizens of Wichita.
- Has full-time professional management and/or cultural/artistic staff.
- Presents a full season of exhibitions or performances.
- Is ADA compliant.

Pre-proposal Conference:

Applicants are required to schedule a time to answer questions from the CFC pertaining to their application. Organizations may call the Division of Arts and Cultural Services between January 4, 2021, through June 4, 2021, to schedule a 15-minute block of time to meet with the CFC members to answer any questions pertaining to the application or organization.

Pre-Application Information:

The submission deadline is 5:00 PM on Friday, June 4, 2021.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to meet with Division of Arts and Cultural Services staff to review application requirements and answer any questions regarding the application or process. The staff is available through May 28, 2021, to review the organization’s grant. Organizations with questions regarding eligibility should request a determination prior to submitting an application. - Monday, January 4, 2021: Application is available to organizations.
- Monday, January 4, 2021, through Friday, May 28, 2021: The Division of Arts & Cultural Services staff is available to answer questions and review drafts of applications for content.
- Friday, June 4, 2021, 5:00 PM: Submission deadline for the FY2022 application.
- January 4 through June 4, 2021: Reserve a 15-minute time slot for Q & A Session with Cultural Funding Committee
- Thursday, July 22, 2021, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM: Q & A Sessions
- Thursday, July 29, 2021, Noon to 5 PM: Deliberations
- Friday, July 30, 2021, Noon to 5:00 PM (if necessary): Continuation of Deliberations, if necessary
- Thursday, August 5, 2021: Finalize recommendations for Wichita City Council

Completed applications must be received (not postmarked) on or before the application deadline.

Each grant applicant may submit only one (1) Cultural Funding for Operational Grant application each annual grant cycle.
