Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $2,500 to Alabama municipalities for promotional and economic development projects that attract visitors and businesses to cities, towns, and communities statewide. Funding is intended to market and advertise the economic and cultural value within local communities, and to help towns invite new visitors, new industries, and new neighbors to the area.

Gateway grants can be used for:

  • The purchase of new signage
  • Renovation of existing signage
  • Website development or upgrades
  • Marketing materials for town/city or for town/city event promotion

Program Objectives:

  • Maintain civic pride in Alabama communities
  • Enhance economic development opportunities by providing signage that is appealing and welcoming
  • Enhance community aesthetics by encouraging physical improvements in local neighborhoods
  • Projects assist with town or event promotion for economic impact

Estimated Size of Grant:

Funding is limited to a maximum of $2,500 per grant.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applying entity must be a city, town or community. Awards will be paid to the municipality.

Municipalities receiving a Gateway grant must not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, nationality, ethnic origin or disability.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications are accepted between June 15 and August 10, 2020.

For signage applications requiring more than $2,500 for completion, please list other sources of funding that will help the applicant complete the project successfully.
