Grants of up to $1,500 and grants of up to $3,000 to Florida legal organizations for collaborative programs and projects that foster discussion between lawyers. Funding is intended to support activities that promote training, inclusion, and interaction among local lawyers. Grants are offered specifically to voluntary Bar Associations and may be used to support conferences, symposia, seminars, and summits organized and hosted by specialty and local bar associations.

Grants will be awarded to underwrite multi-hour, half-day, full-day or multi-day diversity conferences designed to:

  • Foster an inclusive environment in which lawyers, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability are motivated to succeed professionally and contribute to the goals of their profession; and/or
  • Increase knowledge and awareness of diversity and cultural competency; and/or
  • Increase effort in support of gender equality efforts of the Florida Bar; and/or
  • Increase participation, retention, and representation in local and specialty Voluntary Bars; and/or
  • Improve diversity in legal education, employment, the judiciary, and The Florida Bar.

The project for which funds are requested must be educational in nature and open for attendance by Florida Bar members, legal paraprofessionals, and Florida law school students. The project must have received approval by the Voluntary Bar Association's governing board.

Term of Contract:

All programs must be held within the program year of July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be Voluntary Bar Associations headquartered and operating in Florida.

Programs should not be used as a replacement for the organizations’ programs.

Grant funds are not intended to be used for the reoccurring programs or annual operating expenses of the applicant entity.

Pre-Application Information:

Completed proposals must be submitted by email and received on or before May 8, 2020. Applicants will be notified whether programs have been approved for funding by June 1, 2020.

Opportunities for program funding may be available in the spring if all available grant funding is not committed in this grant application period. However, applications are considered on a first-come, first-serve basis, and organizations are encouraged to submit applications in this grant funding cycle.

The upcoming Florida Bar Convention will be held June 17-20, 2020, in Orlando.

Voluntary Bar Associations can submit (1) single or joint application for funding during the grant period.

Voluntary Bar Associations must provide (1) free full admissions to Bar staff.
