Grants to Connecticut nonprofit organizations in eligible regions for programs that benefit underserved communities. Funding is intended for high-quality human services, education, and health care programs, with particular consideration given to organizations that work to prevent cruelty to children and animals. Eligible organizations must serve residents in the Lower Naugatuck Valley: Seymour, Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Shelton, or Beacon Falls. Special consideration will be given to organizations that serve the people of Seymour.
The Matthies Foundation specifically serves the people of the Lower Naugatuck Valley.

Typically, support for start-up nonprofits or programs that are not yet established is not provided. However, the Foundation is open to discussing possible opportunities with applicants.
The deadline for application to the Katherine Matthies Foundation is May 1. Applicants will be notified of grant decisions by letter within 3 to 4 months after the proposal deadline.
Please submit online applications by 11:59 p.m. on the day of the foundation’s deadline date. If the deadline falls on a weekend or a federally recognized holiday, applications are due on the next business day by 11:59 p.m.
Online grant applications will be accepted 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, generally on, or prior to the proposal due date. However, applicant inquiries can only be answered during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. EST.
