Grants to Maryland public school districts to ensure school readiness for young children entering kindergarten. This program focuses on professional development for early childhood educators. Priority will be given to proposals incorporating one or more of the following criteria:
-Professional development to improve the school readiness of children;
-Census administration of the KRA;
-Professional development and administration of the ELA; and
-Needs of the school district.
Proposals may be submitted for the implementation of the Ready for Kindergarten (R4K) Early Childhood Comprehensive Assessment Program in the following areas:
-Professional development to address performance gaps on the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA);
-Professional development and support on the implementation of the KRA for new kindergarten teachers;
-Professional development and support on the use of the R4K Early Learning Assessment (ELA) and KRA for prekindergarten, kindergarten, and other teachers (excluding special education) that will administer the ELA or KRA;
-Professional development in SEFEL, STEM, VIOLETS, and domains of learning (KRA or ELA) for prekindergarten and kindergarten teachers; and
-Articulation of data and curriculum expectations among early childhood educators.

The length of grants is July 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018.
Cost(s) incurred prior to the approval of the grant may not be funded through the award.
Eligible applicants include the 24 public school districts of Maryland.
Applications must be received by 4:00 PM on Friday, June 30, 2017.
Notification of awards will be sent by email no later than July 14, 2017.
