Grants to USA nonprofit and for-profit organizations and institutions, as well as individual journalists, for health care journalism initiatives. Funding is intended to support documentary films and related public engagement campaigns, educational opportunities for reporters, and health reporting.

The purpose of the NIHCM Foundation Journalism Grants is to support timely health care journalism that informs efforts to improve the health of Americans, and that examines emerging health issues and their implications for cost, quality and access.

NIHCM expects to fund 8 to 10 projects from the total funding amount.

Term of Contract:

Projects that can be completed within one year are preferred. The NIHCM will consider support for projects already underway or requiring a longer timeframe, provided applicants can describe anticipated impact and deliverables during the project year.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Qualified Applicants: The NIHCM welcomes applications from individual journalists as well as from all types of organizations and institutions, including both non-profit and for-profit entities.

Pre-Application Information:

Applicants are required to submit an initial letter of inquiry (LOI) describing their project by 5:00 PM EDT on July 15, 2019. Applications are welcome at any time prior to that deadline. LOIs must be submitted using NIHCM’s online entry system and must conform to the required structure.

Those applicants accepted for further consideration will be contacted by September regarding the next steps in the application process.

NIHCM will announce the grant winners in November 2019.
