Grants ranging from $500 to $2,500 to greater Columbia metropolitan area, South Carolina nonprofits, government agencies, neighborhood groups, schools, faith-based organizations, and garden clubs for tree planting initiatives. Funding will be provided for the planting of canopy trees and shade trees which, at maturity, will reach a height of 30 feet or more and have a crown spread of 20 feet or more.

Funds may only be used to purchase plants, trees, and soil amendments. All projects must be planted in common areas, entryways and recreational areas freely open and accessible to the general public in the greater Columbia metropolitan area.

Sustainability: All projects must be sustainable either through xeriscaping or irrigation.

Term of Contract:

All projects must be completed by December 31, 2018.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible Applicants: Applications will be accepted from city governments, residential neighborhood associations, schools, places of worship, neighborhood groups, nonprofit organizations, garden clubs, etc.

Eligible Costs: Funds may be used to purchase only plants, trees, and soil amendments.

Note: Columbia Green will not fund specific invasive plants. There is a list of non-funded plants at the end of the attached RFP.

Matching Funds:

Matching funds are not required, but encouraged. Matching funds can cover the cost of labor, soil amendments, irrigation, fountains, landscape planning, etc. Matching funds may be provided by the applicant organization, private contributions or other grants.

Expenditures for plant and soil amendments are cost reimbursable. Grant recipients must purchase materials and supplies with their own funds and will be reimbursed upon completion of the project.
