Grants of up to $30,000 to Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania nonprofit music organizations in eligible locations to advance music appreciation in new ways or to new communities. Funding may be used for milestone celebrations, innovative projects, and unique or first-time collaborations among music organizations. Eligible organizations are located in one of the four above-mentioned states and within a 75-mile radius of Philadelphia.

Special Project grants will be given to music organizations for:

  • Pilot programs and first-time collaborations between existing music organizations and other artistic organizations (the music organization must be the applicant and grant recipient);
  • Significant anniversary celebratory performances of an organization and not of organizational personnel (must be a quarter century milestone – 25, 50, 75 years, etc.);
  • Initial general operating funding for newly established music organizations (up to 5 years in existence); and
  • Efforts that the Trustees of the Foundation may encourage or initiate through a request for proposals to the field or to specific organizations (consistent with the Foundation’s Conflict of Interest Policy).

For the 2021-22 fiscal year, the Committee will consider proposals for planning grants up to $5,000 for efforts to center racial equity within music organizations.

Considering the Foundation’s Social Justice Statement and Values, proposals will be judged on:

  1. the strengths and accomplishments of the applicant organization;
  2. the relationship of the project to the applicant organization’s capabilities and to the needs community(ies) served;
  3. the long-term impact of the project on the applicant organization and the community;
  4. how a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, access, anti-racism, and anti-bigotry is reflected in the applicant organization’s project; and
