Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) - Land Acquisition and Planning

Grants to Maryland incorporated municipalities and cities for the restoration, improvement, and development of parks and open spaces. Primary consideration will be given to capital requests related to the development and improvement of parks and green spaces.
Eligible activities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Development of new parks
- Rehabilitation of existing parks
- Expansion or improvement of existing parks
- Purchase and installation of playground equipment
- Development of environmentally oriented parks and recreation projects
- Development of new trails or extension of existing trails
- Creation of access points to water recreation resources
- Acquisition of land to create new parks
The Department of Natural Resources works to provide opportunities for Marylanders, especially children, to experience nature. Nature Play Spaces are one of the many types of public recreation projects eligible for consideration for Community Parks and Playgrounds grant funding.

Funding is available to incorporated municipalities and Baltimore City.
Projects are within the applicant’s jurisdiction and the applicant holds the rights to develop on the property.
Nonprofit organizations are encouraged to partner with applicants in project sponsorship and implementation.
Grants may be for up to 100% of the project cost and are selected on a competitive basis.
Each applicant will be limited to one (1) Grant Proposal List submission package, which may contain several prioritized projects, per award cycle.
Applications are due on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 by 3:00 p.m.
Notifications will be issued in May, 2019.
Community Parks and Playgrounds is a reimbursable grant program. DNR will reimburse the applicant for the approved project costs when proper documentation is provided with the reimbursement request for individual component projects.
