Grants to Florida nonprofits in eligible areas for collaborative programs that positively impact local communities. Applicants must submit a pre-application prior to submitting a full proposal. Programs must address critical focus areas identified by the funding source. Eligible programs benefit communities in Sarasota County and the Boca Grande region.

Leveraged grant requests should clearly target regional priorities, utilize creative strategies, and provide measurable data to assess impact. Successful leveraged grants involve multiple partners that extend the impact of the program or project.

Gulf Coast will focus their community investments on programs, providers, and partners in the following critical areas:

  • Workforce housing
  • Mental Health
  • Quality Education
  • Economic diversification and workforce readiness
  • Youth engagement
  • Climate change and environmental quality
  • Criminal justice and rehabilitation
  • Public and private leadership and civic engagement
  • Senior care
  • Transportation and mobility

Estimated Size of Grant:

Leveraged grant requests typically exceed $10,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Organizations must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charities that provide programs and services that benefit the residents of Sarasota County, its immediately surrounding communities, and Boca Grande.

Any organization that has an open leveraged grant with Gulf Coast and has not submitted a final grant report is ineligible for a leveraged grant.

Only one leveraged grant per organization may be awarded each fiscal year.

Pre-Application Information:

Leveraged Grant Pre-Application Deadlines:
- August 10, 2020; full application deadline is August 31, 2020
- March 25, 2021; full application deadline is April 15, 2021

The first step in applying for a leveraged grant is to complete a pre-application. Once this is received, Gulf Coast staff will be in touch to discuss next steps and, if approved, schedule a face-to-face interview. Please note that not all organizations completing pre-applications will be invited to submit a full application.

Applicants must provide at least 50% of the cash for the program or project.
