Matching grants of up to $7,500 to Central Pennsylvania nonprofit organizations serving eligible communities in the areas of arts and culture, education, community development, environment, and health and human services. An informational workshop will be held on September 27. The purpose of these grants is to help organizations increase new donors and re-engage lapsed donors; therefore, grants will be awarded on a matching basis in support of the recipient’s fundraising efforts.

Organizations eligible to apply will reside in GHF’s traditional service area including the central PA counties of Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lebanon, Perry, and the Dillsburg Area of Northern York County.

Grants may also be made from the Harold N. and Thelma G. Lenker Fund to organizations benefiting residents of Millersburg, PA in Upper Dauphin County. There will not be a separate application for the Lenker Fund, but organizations serving Millersburg, PA are encouraged to apply to Our Challenge for Giving. Competition for the Lenker Fund is typically smaller and those organizations may have a higher probability of receiving a grant.

Up to $7,500

Grantees will have 12 months to raise matching funds. Proposed activities must take place during the grant year beginning January 1, 2017 and ending December 31, 2017.

Applicants must have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status or a qualifying fiscal sponsor.

Organizations eligible to apply will have a total operating budget of $1 million or less.

Ineligible Grants:

-GHF will not match donations to ticketed fundraising events, capital campaigns, endowment campaigns, or in-kind donation.

-In addition, GHF does not fund individuals, religious organizations for religious purposes, or national and statewide umbrella organizations that cannot demonstrate a local presence.

Fundraising workshops specific to challenge grants will be offered. Attendance at a workshop is optional, but strongly recommended. Attending a workshop will assist applicants in learning the basics of a challenge campaign and give your organization a boost in competing for a grant.

Workshop attendees will have access to the trainer after the workshop for questions and assistance via phone and/or e-mail.

The next workshop will be held September 27, 2016.

Organizations with total operating budgets up to $250,000 require a 1:1 match. Organizations with total operating budgets between $250,000 and $1 million require a 3:1 match.

The application deadline is October 28, 2016.
