Grants of up to $10,000 to Texas nonprofit organizations for local community benefit initiatives in Lubbock and the surrounding South Plains area. Grants may be made for programs and projects in the areas of civic, social, and economic development; education and youth; and basic needs and self-sufficiency. The Foundation's primary focus at this time is creating pathways out of poverty and alleviating the impact of poverty on individuals and families.

Grants may be made for start-up funding, general operating support, program support, and demonstration programs.

The Community Foundation of West Texas strives to achieve impact through its Community Grants Program by providing financial and technical resources to nonprofit organizations that contribute to:

-Promoting pleasant, livable communities with thriving and sustainable economies;
-Preparing the next generation for adulthood and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all generations;
-Promoting self-sufficiency for vulnerable individuals and families; and
-Assuring that means are available to provide for the basic needs of individuals and families in times of trouble.

Pathways from Poverty
The Community Foundation of West Texas partners with donors and the local nonprofit community to support strategies that make a positive impact on breaking the cycle of poverty in the region.

Investing in What Works
-The Foundation supports programs that help low-income individuals and families secure higher paying jobs, strengthen their finances and move up the economic ladder.
-The Foundation inspires and prepares the next generation by supporting quality education and programs that promote the development of life skills and leadership capacity.
-The Foundation provides a “safety net” for those who are vulnerable by funding programs that meet basic needs such as food, clothing, health care, shelter, and safety.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Typical grant awards range from $1,000 to $5,000, with $10,000 as the maximum generally awarded from the Community Fund.

Term of Contract:

All grant recipients must report on the expenditure of grant funds and results of the supported project within one year of the award.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Foundation restricts its support to organizations in the 15-county South Plains region which are 501(c)(3) or the government equivalent. This includes the counties of Bailey, Cochran, Crosby, Dickens, Floyd, Garza, Hale, Hockley, King, Lamb, Lubbock, Lynn, Motley, Terry, and Yoakum.

The Foundation does not make grants to individuals, for political purposes, to retire indebtedness or for payment of interest or taxes.

Pre-Application Information:

The Community Foundation of West Texas has traditionally offered multiple opportunities for the consideration of grant proposals. Submission deadlines for 2019: February 1st, April 1st, August 1st, and November 1st.

NOTICE: Please be aware that in 2019, all grant applications must be submitted through the online portal. Applications will not be accepted via mail or email.

Applications must be submitted by midnight.

You will be notified of the Board’s decision as soon as possible after the meeting at which your proposal is considered.
