Grants of up to $1,000 to Tennessee schools and organizations to start a student team that engages in 21st-century skill building, STEAM, creative problem-solving, project management skills, and the creative process. Teams will compete in creative tournaments facilitated by the funding source. Funding is intended to bring this innovative teaching program to all of Tennessee’s children, regardless of economic circumstances.

Funding will support the creation of Destination Imagination teams. At the start of the season, teams choose one of seven Challenges. After weeks spent creating, developing and practicing their solutions, they go to a local tournament. Top-scoring teams advance to state or country tournaments. The top level of the tournaments is the Global Finals.

Eligible expenses include, but are not limited to, payment of team membership fees, reimbursement of expenses for attending Destination Imagination tournaments, covering outreach expenses, stipends for program coordinators and/or team managers, seed money for future teams, and other creative uses to support the program.

Destination Imagination programs are developed annually to ensure they are relevant and align to National Education Standards, STEM standards, ELA Common Core Standards and Mathematics Common Core Standards.
