Grants of up to $750 to South Dakota chapters of qualifying youth development organizations for community improvement, safety, and beautification projects in rural areas. Students must have direct participation in the project. Additional funding may be available for disaster-related projects.

Applications are accepted from 4-H Clubs, FFA Chapters, and Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Chapters. These grants were developed to demonstrate the importance of rural communities and the value of organizations working together to improve rural life.

Adults are encouraged to provide students with a hands-on opportunity to work on projects and provide an educational opportunity for children; as well as community beautification.

The following types of grants are available:

1) Basic - The basic grant is used for community improvement projects and is limited to $750 per project.

2) Safety - The safety grant is used for projects that enhance public safety and is limited to $200 per project.

Funding is scored on the following criteria:
-Community and student involvement
-Accomplishment of educational and project goals
-Justification of community need/benefit
-Supporting documentation
Complete application and detailed budget

-BOSDRC Grant: Up to $750*.
-Safety Grant: Up to $200

*Applicants may request a waiver from the $750 limit if there was a disaster; maximum of $2,000 grant for disaster-related projects.

Projects must be completed and a report submitted by November 1, 2017.

Any 4-H club or FFA/FCCLA chapter in South Dakota can apply for the grant.

Applications are due by October 31 (postmarked) annually. Awards are announced at the end of November.
