Grants to Elgin, Illinois nonprofit organizations for general operating support to develop and expand their capacity to meet the needs of local residents. Applicants must submit an LOI prior to submitting a full application. Funding will support organizations that offer service in the areas of youth, education, the environment, arts and culture, economic development, health, and human services, as well as other areas of community development.

General operating grants cover the regular personnel, administrative, and other expenses of an organization or of an existing program within an organization. The grant may also be used to cover the cost of staff retreats, staff training, outside consultative services, rent, utilities, development of marketing or public relations materials, and translation of program materials.

Term of Contract:

The Foundation is generally open to requests for two-year grants.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible organizations:
Elgin-based 501(c)(3) public charity that has:
- Been in business and operating for at least 3 years providing services to Elgin residents
- An annual operating budget of at least $150,000
- A balanced budget or an operating deficit of less than 15%
- At least one full-time executive level employee

A nonprofit is considered an Elgin-based organization if it: 1) has an office in Elgin, Illinois, 2) provides direct services to Elgin residents, and 3) has a dedicated Elgin budget.

Funding is NOT considered for:
- Schools
- Debt or deficit reduction
- Political campaigns
- Religious purposes
- Federated funds

Pre-Application Information:

The next LOI deadline is Friday May 3, 2019 at 5:00 pm. Applications are due the first Friday in June and December. In 2019, applications are due June 7 and December 6.
