Grants to Vermont nonprofit organizations, municipalities, and corporations for the preservation of natural resources. Funding is intended to prevent and reduce pollution to rivers, streams, wetlands, and lakes through carefully removing unnecessary and damaging dams throughout the State.
The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Clean Water Initiative Program (CWIP) is pleased to announce the state fiscal year (SFY) 2021 Request for Proposals (RFP) for Ecosystem Restoration Grants for Dam Removal Projects. These grants are supported by the state Clean Water Fund. The goal of the program is to support projects that reduce sediment and nutrient pollution, including phosphorus, from runoff and soil erosion that discharge into the state’s rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, and wetlands.
A dam removal project is recognized as a temporary perturbation of the biological, chemical, and physical function of the stream or river environment that results in a short-term adverse impact for a long-term beneficial gain.
