Grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 to Pennsylvania nonprofits and agencies in Bedford, Cambria, Somerset, and Indiana Counties for programs in the areas of arts and culture, children and youth, community development, economic development, education, environment, health and human services, heritage, and religion.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must have a Federal Tax ID Number and a 501(c)(3) IRS status or be a governmental body or church. (One exception: volunteer fire companies with a 501(c)(4) status are also eligible.)

Applicants must serve communities in or throughout the Cambria, Somerset and/or Bedford County region. (Applicants serving Indiana County should ONLY apply during the Fall Grant Round.)

Grants may not be awarded retroactively for projects. Please see the timeline above and ensure that your project will not occur until after awards are estimated to be made. If your project has already happened or will happen prior to when awards will be made, it is not eligible.

Projects that discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, race, color, creed, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender expression, or any veteran status are ineligible.

Not funded:
- Debt
- Activities that occurred prior to the beginning date of the grant
- Individuals
- Religious organizations for religious purposes
- Government entities for basic services
- Projects that discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, race, color, creed, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender expression, or any veteran status.

Pre-Application Information:

The Community Foundation for the Alleghenies' Distribution Committee awards grants twice annually.

The timeline for these grants is as follows:
Spring Round
- Applications due on the last Friday of January
- Distribution Committee announces awards in mid-April

Fall Round
- Applications due on the last Friday of August
- Distribution Committee announces awards in late October

In addition to being reviewed by the Distribution Committee, applications that serve the community of Meyersdale will also be reviewed by the FPL Energy Meyersdale Wind Power Fund committee for the potential of additional funding. This committee reviews applications for both the Spring and Fall Distribution Rounds.

Also, in addition to being reviewed by the Distribution Committee, applications that serve Somerset County will also be reviewed by the Somerset County Community Fund for the potential of additional grant funding during the Fall Round only.

Similarly, applications that serve the Portage community in Cambria County will also be reviewed by the Portage Funds Committee for the potential of additional grant funding during the Spring Round only.

Finally, applicants who serve Indiana County are welcome to apply for grants from the Bork Family Fund using this application, but those applications are only accepted during the Fall Round. Due dates for Fall and Spring applications are noted above.

All applications must be submitted online (hard copies are not accepted). All applicants will be notified of the results in writing.
