Grants generally ranging from $10,000 to $25,000 to Minneapolis, Minnesota organizations for (a) programs and projects that target economically disadvantaged middle school age youth (grades 6-8, approximately ages 12-14), as well as (b) general community vitality programs, including arts, culture, and civic initiatives.

Funding for economically disadvantaged middle school youth programs is intended to be used to support programs that:

- Enable youth to be successful in middle school and well prepared for high school.
- Provide access to resources to promote healthy lifestyle choices.
- Assist young people to develop positive relationships with adults, life skills, and positive decision making.
- Support families’ ability to nurture and support their middle schoolers.
- Provide direct access to quality arts and creative expression.

Funding for community vitality programs is intended to be used to create shared understanding and commitment to the community. This category does not include social service programs. The types of programs the Foundation has funded in the past have included:

- Programs/activities that bring together diverse communities.
- Programs that make community resources more accessible and inviting to broad audiences.
- Programs that spotlight and share the arts, culture, and heritage of community residents.
- Activities that support and empower active community engagement.

Recently most community grants have been in the $10,000 to $25,000 range.

All responsive grants are one year grants.

Organizations must meet the target areas of economically disadvantaged youth and community vitality.

Only organizations that will benefit the residents and youth of Minneapolis, Minnesota are eligible. Surrounding suburbs and St. Paul organizations are not eligible.
