Award to a Collier County, Florida K-12 teacher or educator to recognize the delivery of outstanding lessons promoting diversity and tolerance. Nominations will be considered for educators in any position, including but not limited to teachers, school librarians, guidance counselors, administrators, school psychologists, and media specialists.
The goal of this program to create a resource for educators of any discipline to incorporate strategies that promote understanding and respect among students, countering bigotry and bullying.
All applicants must have created lessons/programs of their own design or successfully made adaptations from other programs and should be able to show evidence of a positive nature as a result of implementation. These activities should teach students to stand up for justice no matter what racial, religious, cultural, or other differences exist.
A monetary grant will be made to the educator whose lesson(s) and/or activity(s) is selected as best meeting the eligible criteria. The purpose of this grant is to honor Collier County elementary, middle, and high school educators who strive to counter the prevailing tendency within today’s popular culture for students to deride or denigrate others based upon difference.
