Grants of up to $1,000 to Maine nonprofit organizations government agencies, and tribal governments for public programs and projects that combine both humanities and arts disciplines. Applicants must contact program staff prior to applying. Funding is intended to promote stories and cultural expressions related to the State, its communities, and its people. Projects can be in any discipline and on any scale but must include both arts and humanities aspects.

Project may start no sooner than eight weeks after the application deadline and must occur between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

An organization is eligible to apply if it meets the following criteria:
- The applicant is a nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service or is a unit of municipal, county, or tribal government, legally established in the state of Maine.
- Is in compliance with Final Reports required by the Maine Arts Commission and the Maine Humanities Council for previous awards.
- An applicant has not already received an Arts and Humanities grant within this funding cycle.
- Applicant has discussed their project with a representative from the Maine Arts Commission and the Maine Humanities Council.

Grant awards may not be re-granted nor used to cover the costs of brick-and-mortar projects, permanent or capital equipment over $4,999 in value, operating support, or fundraising.

Pre-Application Information:

Deadline: April 01 and October 14, 2021 Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on the day of the deadline. Notifications to applicants of the spring deadlines are sent in mid-July. The review process and delivery of funds may take up to six months.

Please note: Before submitting an application, the applicant is required to speak with representatives from the Maine Arts Commission and the Maine Humanities Council (see details in Contact Information below).

Agency staff are always here as a resource for you. It is recommended that you contact the correct staff person a minimum of two weeks prior to submitting your application.

Only one project per applicant can be submitted to a grant program within a funding cycle. Organizations can apply to multiple grants with multiple projects during the same round of funding. However, there may be restrictions about accepting multiple awards.

All applicants must have an active Maine Arts Commission account and current Vendor Code to receive funding.

The applicant must have a valid DUNS number (https://www.dnb.com/).

There is a required 1:1 in-kind or cash match for this grant. (Match waived for FY22)
